Nutritional Therapy

"Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food" (Hippocrates)

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy treats all health concerns holistically. It uses foods, supplements, personalised diet programmes, supplements and lifestyle advice to prevent illnesses from arising and treats existing health disorders with specifically designed protocols to re-balance vitamin-and mineral deficiencies.

What happens during a Nutritional Therapy consultation?

The initial consultation is a detailed "question and answer" based session between client and practitioner about the client's current health concerns, personal medical history, family medical history, diet and lifestyle. Each body system will be addressed (i.e. digestive, immune, reproductive, respiratory, musculo-skeletal, urinary, cardio-vascular and skin) and if wished, psychological concerns (e.g. anxiety, depression) can be discussed.

Additionally the consultation includes taking the client's blood pressure, a tongue-and nail analysis, weighing and measuring height. If necessary diagnostic tests (e.g. allergy tests, blood-and/or stool tests) can be included in order to further identify underlying health problems. Diagnostic tests are not part of the consultation fee and need to be paid for separately.

How are health conditions treated?

Each consultation (inc. results of any diagnostic tests) concludes with establishing the underlying cause of the health concern, i.e. the cause is treated not just the symptoms.

The practitioner then recommends to the client what dietary and lifestyle changes need to be made to improve and remedy a current health condition or to prevent a health concern. The practitioner will then design for the client a tailor-made, easy-to-follow, step-by-step programme which considers the client's food preferences, any allergies or intolerances and current life situation.

Each individual treatment plan is aimed to be achievable for the client. All dietary plans include suggestions and recipies for wholesome foods that taste delicious and are high in anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Supplement recommendations may be part of the programme. However, supplements are only prescribed if the health condition warrants it, i.e. often for chronic conditions and when the body has been depleted of vitamin and minerals. Costs of supplements are not included in the consultation fee.

Follow up consultations are recommended to support the client in achieving their goals and to improve their health condition. The length of the treatment depends on the severity of the health condition.

All clients receive a detailed report with information about their health condition, fact sheets and dietary programme.
