What is Combined Decongestive Therapy?
Combined decongestive therapy (CDT) is offered in combination with Manual Lymphatic Drainage to clients who suffer from primary or secondary lymphoedema, lipoedema or phleboedema.
A comprehensive service is offered including:
CDT begins with an intensive phase of therapy, during which you may receive daily treatments (MLD and multi-layered bandaging) for up to six weeks. This is followed by the second phase, known as the maintenance phase. During the maintenance phase MLD treatments are reduced to once or twice per week in order to maintain the achieved results and prevent the lymphoedema from worsening. During the maintenance phase the patient is advised to wear compression garments.
The first visit for the treatment of lymphoedema is an in-depth consultation and can take up to 1 1/2 hours. Treatment plans depend on the severity of the oedema and are discussed following the examination.
